All sorts of statements since January 7 -- pro-life novenas, laudable pro-life statements, the consistory, the meeting between Archbishop Coakley and Trump, Vance, effusive praise for the Trump administration's work on religious visas -- but nothing on the violent federal occupation of Minnesota and nothing on the endless stream of lies from DHS. Shame on them. But then, they are not the Church. We are. And, yes, every Catholic with a conscience, every Catholic who believes and seeks to live by the teachings of Jesus must stand up to this.....

I sympathize but I’d say, let Vance and God deal with whether he is in communion. Let’s turn our energies toward bringing into communion those we know personally and can reach. It’s possible you in the Roman tradition have a different view than I do in the Anglican. But I can’t get wrapped up in whether someone else is welcome at the table. Who knows, if anything can reach him, maybe it’s the liturgy and the sacrament and the faith of those beside him.
And- call your elected officials. All of them regardless of which party they are in. Local, State, & Federal. Let them know how you feel. Let them know how you feel about what they are/not doing to stop this insanity. It does matter. I promise you, it does matter.

Thank you Chris. Your words are calming and inspiring. The offices of my legislators is two blocks down the street from my church. After mass Tuesday morning I plan to walk in the freezing cold to talk to whoever is in the office.
I just read a piece in the Twin City News after noon today: “Dozens of faith leaders were arrested while protesting at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Friday, organizers say, as part of an effort to call for an end to Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests in the area.” The article does not say if any of the minsters were Catholic priests or bishops.
Christopher, thank you. It is hard for me to put into words my despair of the darkness and evil taking place in the U.S. and around the world. May God help us through these dark times and give all people of faith the courage to speak the truth. 🙏
