Yes!!!! This is what is needed-it isn’t “business as usual.” Religious leaders can get people’s attention in ways politicians can’t. Where are the leaders of other’s denominations? All need to stand up!

It is always stronger when the Bishops of a State or Region ( or, indeed, the USCCB) make strong statements and action together, as a body. So, this is good news from the heartland.

And you are right.....this is not red/ blue/ or purple politics -- this is how the Gospel informs our lives. Lay people know this and have already been out there protesting, calling and confronting Congressional reps, and working in myriad local ways to do justice. Here in Florida, due to repressive leadership ( by one who calls himself Catholic) we are on constant alert.

The stomping on human rights and the targeting of the weakest among us has become a pattern of cruelty and injustice in our country--" home of the free and the brave"! We are in dangerous times. I am glad we have the Pope we have. He uses his moral platform. Glad to see the Bishops beginning to do the same.

This makes me feel

Happy! This is what they should be doing. I wonder what the Catholic Bishops and priests who were quick to criticize Pope Leo are now saying. Are they just sitting down complaining or are they mobilizing too. The US Catholics helped to put Trump back in office. The German Catholic Church at first approved of Hitler because as now ,inflation was high, and the church thought it would give them more power.

Right now Trump is trying to form his own army to take over cities. Hopefully when Congress comes back in session hopefully some republicans will have the backbone to start legislating again as the constitution says. We are in very dark times. Pope Leo knows it maybe he can help save our democracy.

I don’t have names but my relative watches Catholic YouTube website. If you want I can find the names. Let me know. The ones she watches did not like the last pope because he was too liberal . He was ruining the church. Now the church clergy who didn’t like The last Pope don’t like Pope Leo for the same reason. The reason I know this is because I personally hear the YouTube shows she is watching.. they just sit and complain, period. It makes me sick. These so called Catholics voted in a pedophile president. There is proof of this and Trump is doing his best to suppress. On September 3 women ,who were children when they were repeatably reaped by Epstein, will give a speech. There is a woman who was 13 years old when she was forced to commit a sexual act of Trump. She has been threatened.

The criminals are in the White House. Pope Leo knows this. I feel that God wanted Pope Leo to take over because he is an American and speaks English and telling the truth.

It was probably EWTN. They are more political than religious. Too many people put politics first before God.

I love this! I live in Davenport Iowa and Bishop Walsh is my bishop. He’s wonderful! At mass Sunday the priest talked about the pastoral letter and immigrants. He expressed the importance of treating them with dignity. Our pastor was born in Texas and is Hispanic. The priest explained how ICE could pick him up. After the homily everyone applauded. My church is about 1/3 Hispanic with many unable to speak English. I love my church and our bishops in Iowa. We’re in the middle of the country but when it comes to Catholicism we’re not a fly over state.

It is very hopeful that bishops and nuns are leading the way. Pope Leo is reminding all people of faith that the Gospels are clear on the treatment of all people. This brings me hope. I look forward to reading your substack each day.
