After 25 years away, the openly gay TV anchor found his way back to church. He credits Pope Francis’s inclusive legacy — carried on by Pope Leo XIV — and the outreach of Fr. James Martin for guidance.
That was a beautiful story. It strikes me that while this Christian Nationalism is trying to intrude and envelop our country with its warped principles, that the Catholic Church, under the leadership of Christ our Lord and Pope Francis and Pope Leo are surging the church through their ministry to combat the Christian nationalists wrongheadedness.
This speaks to me as a mom of one daughter and 3 sons. The 2 youngest sons are twins. One of the twins is heterosexual, married and dad of 3 little girls. The other twin is gay, married and in the adoption process. In my many conversations with my gay son I asked so many questions, many of which his answer was, “Mom, I don’t know. I’m actually learning and trying to figure it out along side of you.”
Unconditional love is all there is to it. We are told that many times in scripture but still get hung up on it.
Love conquers all. We just have to put it in action.
Jesus loves us just the way we are but too much to leave us that way. So if a person is in an illicit marriage and committing adultery with every sex act, they would have to go to confession and stop sinning to receive communion, right?
Open arms create a positive environment for growth and understanding. Closed arms and minds create boundaries and a prelude to hatred. Leo has it right, and SO needed right now.
Why are you trying to purposely lead people into sin?
CCC 2357 is very clear.
Under no circumstances can [homosexual acts] be approved.
Matt 18:6
“If any of you put a stumbling block before one of these little ones who believe in me, it would be better for you if a great millstone were fastened around your neck and you were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Praise be to God one these sheep have been found, and he has returned back to the Church. The church's approach to welcoming the people who feel away from the Lord. My only worry is we cannot change our teaching on the sacrament of marriage.
This man cannot be married in the eyes of the church, and yet his husband is his sponsor. I do not know their situation, and I really hope both men are living in according to the laws of the Church and for deeper repentance. Again, praise God someone has entered the Church, but over the last decade we have talked about inclusivity, the conversation needs to shift into integration of the Truths, Laws, and Traditions of the Church without the Church changing her doctrines.
How she approaches the modern world can change and adapt, but by her nature she cannot change her doctrines on marriage.
This is a subject dear to my heart, I work on a college campus in the PNW where most students identify with the LGBTQ or ally with the community. I love them dearly, most of whom I have gotten very close. I also know the church's teaching on marriage and sexual ethics. How do we balance the both? How do we love grounded in truth?
I'm glad I came across this story, it gives me hope for the people in the LGBTQ community but also raises an even deeper reflection in how we approach this ministry.
Doug Koesel, an outspoken 72-year-old priest at Blessed Trinity Parish in Cleveland, was blunter: “They’re just waiting for us to die.”
In the U.S. there is no future in Boomer Catholicism which promotes homosexuality, as well as other typically left of center issues that disagree with Catholic teaching. It is traditonal Catholic churches that are full and the boomer churches that are empty other than the elderly who didn't leave when all of their friends and family did.

I believe that the goodness will prevail.
Thank you again for these wonderful posts.
Beautiful! 🥲 Tears of joy! We are all sinners. Yet we are all loved by the Holy Trinity! 🙏🏼
I always encourage and celebrate anyone to come back to the Catholic Church! 🙏🏼

Thanks for the beautiful story! I get the feeling that windows & doors are flying open with Pope Leo XIV as our shepherd.
We are all family

This is not Catholicism. This is straight-up demonic.
Why is sodomy now “beautiful”, but taking pride in one's white skin color is “hateful”?
