Are we not sick to death of T*ump talking about being “tough on crime” while he’s pardoning and protecting criminals and pedos? When will his cult wake up to the truth??

“The message of the Church is the message of the Gospel: Blessed are the peacemakers.” THIS! Thank you Christopher for keeping us so well informed on the fast moving (and disturbing) story.

I love how completely unbothered Pope Leo is regarding Trump's tirades. His Holiness is non-stop, going from Easter Week to traveling for two weeks around Africa. Pope Francis, Benedict, and JP2 are probably very proud of him.

I hadn’t thought about that but you’re right. Leo’s older than me and here I am taking Good Friday and Easter Monday off work because choir was so strenuous.

I have been waiting for this message from my Church since Reagan.

God bless Pope Leo.

Barron has to decide who he works for -- Trump or Catholics.

Because this "commission" turns a blind eye to anti Muslim bigotry and throws hard working immigrants of all faiths in unAmerican concentration camps, denying them visits from the clergy.

I would like to see him reassigned to a nice cloistered monastery where he can reflect on his actions.

I am so disappointed in Barron’s weakness in not forthrightly and unapologetically, standing with the popes positions on unjust war and torture and killing immigrants… Jesus was not interested in appeasing tyrants

I agree about Barron

C'mon, Christopher, you're being kind to Bishop Barron with your comment that he wants to preserve access. It's all about the money. Word on Fire has become huge and I'm certain Bishop Barron benefits in ways we'll never know.

“No one can serve two masters. He will either hate one and love the other, or be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon."

—Matthew 6:24

I think this shows exactly who is serving whom.

Peggy Schneider's avatar

You are exactly right! Word on Fire just spent almost $2 million to buy a property in Rochester to expand their growth. Apparently Barron also wants to form his own order of priests.

"Word on Fire is an organization founded by Barron in 2000, when he was a priest in Chicago. It has grown to a large Catholic media and education organization that reported revenue of $26.8 million in 2024."

The media conglomerate he has created is all he cares about.

“After Criticizing Pope, Trump Posts Image of Himself as a Jesus-Like Figure”. NYT today 13Apr2026

Trump posted …

“I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States …”. Trump has now started another war; this one with 1.4 Billion (with a B) Catholics worldwide, not to mention 25% of the U.S. military is Catholic. He’s totally lost the Catholic vote and the Republicans across the country will suffer the consequences. All because the pope and cardinals consider the war with Iran unjust and immoral.

Suzanne Crockett's avatar

That image was blasphemous and sickening

How long, oh Lord??

Duke Taylor's avatar

“No President in my lifetime has shown a greater dedication to defending our first liberty.”

Bishop Barron seems to be channeling Father Coughlin.

The “first liberty” phrase seems to be a dog whistle for Catholics who supported Benedict but were disappointed with Francis & Leo.

I find it sad that Bishop Barron has not been removed from any position in the Roman Catholic Church and possibly excommunicated for some of his prior commentary criticizing Pope Leo.

Bridget Collins's avatar

Excommunication is supposed to be the last step.

The joy of a medieval Church is there are so many painful options before that.

Like silence.

Asked specifically about Mr. Trump’s comments on Truth Social, Leo said: “It’s ironic — the name of the site itself. Say no more.” ❤️❤️❤️

So, is Bishop Barron a MAGA? He sounds like one of those priests who preached that Catholics would go to Hell if they voted for Biden, because he believes in abortion. First Biden doesn't believe in abortion because he follows his religious tenets: but he separates his personal beliefs from his political beliefs because there are Americans who believe differently. And America use to have separation of church and state.

I understand there is a break in the Church between "conservative Catholics" and other Catholics. Does this term "conservative" actually mean "maga"? If so, how can they claim to be Catholics when they support two genocides; support children being separated from their parents; refuse to attempt to live their life according to Jesus Christ's teachings, all by supporting the president. And how can the Pope recognize their catholicism when they break the 10 Commandments on a daily basis? And what do the non-maga Catholics think about their religion giving holy communion to those who do not follow Catholic rules on a daily basis?

I think if one is a maga one cannot be a true catholic. OPUS Dei needs to have ended in the last century. Secret societies inside a Church are suspect, imo. Why would they exist?

Lots of questions, and few answers I find possible. Thanks for letting me express my thoughts. I believe this Pope is a true Catholic leader, and I appreciate His speaking and acting his faith.

Christopher, what a thrill to see you “in person”!!! You speak for all people of good will, Catholic or not. Thank you, thank you. And may our Heavenly Father continue to bless Pope Leo, and you, as He has in the past.

Nancy Stock's avatar

Barron stood on the stage and grinned while an Evangelical pastor equated Trump to Christ . Enough said.

“I do not want to enter a debate with [President Trump],” he says as he starts a debate.

He sounds like almost every passive aggressive, too-cute-by-half leftist I've talked to over the last few years.

Disdain hidden behind plausible deniability as they look down their noses at us MAGAts and say without saying, circumstantial evidence is all you got like we’re in a meeting with HR.
