The poet who eulogized Francis as a dandelion among stones sat across Leo’s desk Friday and said “Hi.” Hours later, LifeSiteNews wanted to know why she got an audience and the SSPX got none.
Thank you for a valuable article. I am mo longer a Xian; have not been for a long time. Neverteless, I still admire the R.C.s for their wisdon and for Vatican-II, the latter ofwhich Popes Francis and Leo XIV have tied to extend. ¡Bravò, esteemed holy men, Bravò!
Thank you for the newsletter, Chris. The Catholic right should be shut down immediately from the Catholic Church along with Vice President Vance. I will continue to pray for Pope Leo who is a leader I admire. These prayers for our nation will continue.
I honestly think it's cool that Patti Smith was able to meet Pope Leo. I knew of her because she was mentioned in Taylor Swift's "Tortured Poets Department" (song). If she's drawn to Pope Francis and Pope Leo, she could potentially convert. People like LifeSiteNews should realize the potential and shut up before shutting her out.
I love that he is calling artists and poets prophetic in their work. I think this is deeply insightful. Getting a clearer image or metaphor or symbol helps us deepen our faith. Creativity links us to nature and to each other in fresh ways.
There are all kinds of people in the world, all kinds of people searching for Truth. Yet almost none of them could get a 40-minute audience with the Pope. I doubt even most bishops could have that long of a sit-down meeting, essentially one-on-one with the Pope. Certainly most priests and religious could not, and the faithful rank-and-file? Forget it! Are you seriously defending Pope Leo’s meeting with Patti Smith? I was once a pretty big Patti Smith fan. I was even in the front row of a live show of hers around 25 years ago. I waited outside the door for hours to get the chance to stand there. But now, as a Catholic convert who has by now been in the Church for decades, I cannot possibly imagine what the point of Leo’s meeting with her was. Does he seek to make the Church seem appealing to her fan base? Does he want her advice? What good does he think will come from it, other than a nice biographical tidbit for her? And what does their shared Chicago origin have to with this? I assume Leo doesn’t just meet with every Chicago person who makes it big, right? Honoring someone (and a 40-minute audience is unmistakably an honor) whose most famous line (and it is unmistakably her most famous line) is literally aggressive blasphemy, and which derives its power entirely from that fact, does not seem fitting for the Pope. Nor does the fact that it was 50 years ago serve as an excuse. Again, I ask you, are you actually serious in praising Leo’s decision to have this meeting?
More and more I love this man and the lessons he offers through his actions.
Totally agree! He gives me hope and makes me smile. I love him!

I so admire Pope Leo and I thank you for writing about him.

The Pope is a punk too? I will never not love this pontificate.
