Thank you for this column and especially this post. And for your own words, “As long as God gives us breath…” etc. All people, whether people of faith or people of no religious faith, ought to work to stop this madness. Congress must develop the political will to pass a bill limiting the availability of firearms to all and sundry. If Congress cannot, or if the president will not sign it, then the states must begin regulating firearms sales. Other countries that have suffered school shootings have enacted firearms regulations *and the shootings have not recurred.* We must learn from them and follow suit. We must also, as a nation, develop the will to remove the assault weapons already flooding our country, before another child dies.

How about enact the 1st part of the 2nd amendment "A well regulated militia". Write a law that musters anyone who possesses a firearm into a militia and require them to spend one weekend a month in drill, first aid training, emergency response preparedness and other training that seems appropriate. When someone enters a state with a firearm, they are required to 'present arms' to the appropriate authorities that will then evaluate their training and if appropriate give them a temporary permit.

Prayer with words but not deeds hasn’t helped and won’t help. The children were literally praying at the time!

The young Principal of Annunciation school said prayer is not enough...we need

"prayer with feet"!!

This country ( and this world) seems willing to keep on sacrificing our children......unforgiveable!!

Our leaders need to quit building ball rooms and running train stations and creating "fake emergencies" and do something about the real emergencies!!!

I’m Canadian and we’re always so dumbfounded by the number of shootings in the US. Besides prayers, it’s going to require action from the people to show your representatives that you’re against what’s going on.

Other nations, including Canada, allow citizens to own guns, yet set limits and guidelines for safe ownership. There were 24 mass shootings (defined as more than 4 dead not including the shooter) in Canada from 1902 to 1999, and 68 from 2000 to today. Australia banned certain types of firearms after a mass shooting in 1996 and has had 13 mass shootings (defined as 5 dead) since. It can be done, and you deserve better!

We all know how things work in America. Money drives every action and decision. It is thanks to the massive funding by the gun lobby that there are no sensible laws restricting access to guns. The Catholic Church has massive wealth. Now, with the guidance of a benevolent leader, Pope Leo, it is time to apply financial pressure to correct this sickening imbalance. I am so heartened by the actions of priests in providing physical support to immigrants. Is it too much to demand that our Church expand its activism to protect children?

“After the 2017 Las Vegas shooting, the future Pope Leo retweeted this from Senator Chris Murphy: “Your cowardice to act cannot be whitewashed by thoughts and prayers. None of this ends unless we do something to stop it.”

YES!!

Thanks you…🙏❤️🌷⚖️

My prayer is to see God's hand in eliminating these tragedies. Of course, we're not going to see a blatant miracle, but God can work through the hearts and minds of human beings. So, "Dear Father, reach into the hearts and minds of your gifted problem solvers so they can create a solution to automatic rifles in the hands of misdirected, murderous human beings. Protect us."
