Then why did so Many Catholics vote for Trump. Please tell me.

Trump campaigned as being opposed to abortion, aka Pro Life. Despite his corrupt past, this was a deal breaker for many Catholics.

How many abortions has her paid for in the past?

This Pope is too smart to wade into those politicized issues this early in his pontificate.

Besides, In the hierarchy of life issues needing a moral voice in our time, intentional genocides by starvation and constant bombardment, take precedence. We have at least two, probably more, going on every day as our world turns.

Many pro-lifers are really pro-birthers and in the U.S. their position has been politicized to the point of being unable to explore the social systems underneath abortion and human rights for all. The dreadful images of starving babies and children- those already born- need immediate and strong moral voice.

Pope Leo has the global platform for now and he is using it.

I think Pope Leo does not want to engage in culture wars... That is all a sideshow.

His purpose is to lead us to eternal life -- did we feed the hungry? Did we visit the sick and bury the dead? Did we treat others as we want to be treated? Did we forgive others as we would want to be forgiven?

Yes democrats represent pro life not republicans.

Sue Dalling's avatar

Exactly that is why Harris lost the Catholic vote. Thank you for saying that.

I am pointing to Catholics what the pope is saying and they don’t contradict me. Finally!

Are there enough good people still left in the FBI?

This is a moral issue. Nor red and blue.

Morality has failed many of these children.

Now, I’m sure you wouldn’t want to walk a mile in the child’s shoes. Compassion without judgement. Leading through caring. Healing through love?

Not Catholic, but the Popes seem like absolutely great guys.

Regarding the issues of Abortion & Gay Marriage, do you believe that Pope Leo XIV would get the Catholic community to approach these issues with a more compassionate attitude and not set them in a more polarized (i.e., black - white) view. That is, one doesn't want abortion to occur but one should take a more humanized approach.

Thank you for asking, Gary. I think he could compel the Catholic community to start looking for into root causes of abortion.

A purely legalistic approach to reducing abortion is bound to fail. In fact, it already has.

From Maine. Cradle Catholic but don’t practice because I believe it birth control. I was told that every time I had sex with my husband and used birth control, I was committing a mortal sin. Really.

You’re not alone, Sue. I think upwards of 80% of married Catholics have used contraception in their marriages. Thank you for sharing your story. You’re always welcome here.
