I feel like 2 things can be true. The Pope is addressing his speeches to his audience in Africa, but we can take what the Pope is saying and apply it to what's going on in America.

“Make no mistake — Leo’s words were meant for the Cameroonian people, but as Americans, we ought to reflect on what those words mean to our situation.
“After all, that is the purpose of this newsletter — to understand what Pope Leo XIV’s universal mission as the bishop of Rome means to us here at home in the United States.”
That illustration shows him holding his cross. I don’t know that it’s a fist. That being said, Trump wants everything to be about him. He can’t stand that the Pope isn’t taking the bait. Great article as usual!
For a narcissist, there is no other situation than his/her own. It is a one-person-centered world. And for someone who has already been noted by Pope Leo as not coming up to snuff, anything else spoken or done that does not praise the narcissist is “fighting’ words.”
Just praying that Pope Leo XIV can keep his cool.

Thank you, Christopher. Trump is a lifelong bully and will pick a fight with anyone who doesn’t agree with him, or kiss his ring. He is usually allowed to win, but this time he has met his match in Pope Leo XIV. Sadly, Donnie is too stupid to retreat when he’s losing. He will continue to double down until the (metaphorical) cows come home. I feel bad that the Pope has been caught up in this silly schoolyard game. My money is on His Holiness!
I love that Pope Leo demonstrates what Jesus taught in terms of being a peacemaker, self control, sharing love not hate, being wise by holding one's tongue, patiently persisting instead of engaging. I need more of this! It is so hard to love my enemies and I can't even figure out how to do that in this evil environment that uses Jesus to justify evil and lies about everything. I see them as the lion out to get us. Serving others, looking out for those in my community who are suffering, helping the poor and the immigrants, trying to bring hope and reading my Bible is how i am coping. Trusting God has a plan to win and always will is my faith. I see it in the Bible throughout history when He used evil people and so many were killed for His plan. I believe He is looking for the true believer

I've been searching for the right words to describe the ongoing MAGA heresy. I believe that is partly a basis of Trump's attacks on the Pope. That was my impression too. Leo holding fast to the cross while showing his back to Trump.

True. Trump’s behavior fits with the already existing violence and injustice that is antithetical to the Gospel message that Leo preaches.
