Wow! Pope Leo is waking up Catholics the world over with his Bishop of Rome’s stance: my role is as a peacemaker!! I am absolutely thrilled by his take no prisoners approach, and at the same time, aghast that so many Catholics are lamenting that he is a “woke” Pope! I mean, REALLY? Isn’t that exactly what being a Catholic means?
My model of Catholicism is Saint Oscar Romero; I live in El Salvador and followed St. Oscar from the moment I knew him in 1977. At that time there was no “wokeness”; you either stood on the side of Justice, with the poor and the oppressed, or you stood with the oligarchs and the death squads. So, let me repeat: I am appalled by the response of many Catholics worldwide who accuse the Pope of “picking a fight”, of not condemning the Iranian regime, of meddling in politics. Hellooo?? The accusations about anything and everything come fast and furious making for a slippery slope. I mean, how do you respond to these massive, unhinged attacks?
And btw, do y’all know anyone more political than Jesus Christ?
So scary to be witnessing the hateful venom coming from the Trump administration…. Takes me back to the death squads of the 70’s and 80’s, proving once again that to stand with Jesus has always been a dangerous proposition.

One cannot listen to Vance without hearing the obvious influence of Opus Dei. Not a main stream catholic or even a true believer in any of Jesus's teachings. Why he thinks he can lecture a pope on religion is ridiculous. trump doesn't believe in any religion except money. Never has, never will.

Mar 20, 2026Accusations of sexual abuse by the famed union leader and champion of farmworker rights Cesar Chavez broke his legacy and those who admired him.
Like all registered republicans, they need to do a deep dive to determine if their party or their God is most prevalent. Sounds like an easy one, but MAGA is a cult, so the divide seems fractured! I personally believe in God before ANY politician or party affiliation🙏🏼 Trump will not be here forever, but God will! I trust in God not in gold cows or tennis shoes!! Just sayin!!!!!
Have agreed completely with your powerful posts the last few weeks but agree w the comment here: Cesar Chavez is not really an example you want to point to as you do so here.
I hate sounding like a snobby Cradle Catholic, but I seriously want some nuns to whack JD Vance with rulers. If there's one thing I learned from Catholic school, it's that you don't mess with Italian nuns or the pope! JD Vance's arrogance would've gotten him a scolding and a lecture if he went to my school!
