Our Priest just said this morning that he does not want anyone associating with MAGA at our parish anymore. Some guy clapped back but the Priest stayed firm and said the KKK is not welcomed. We are here for the dumb, sure but not the hateful dumb. Ouch. Good for Padre John.

The conservative Catholic clergy in my community (say that 5 times fast!) are livid. But it speaks to their all or nothing thinking - there is no nuance to issues. For me, it’s so silly to think that one issue and one issue alone can somehow negate the other terrible things happening right now.

Exactly! This either/or thinking is rampant in the west. I highly recommend Iain McGilchrist's "The Master and His Emissary": The Divided Brain and the Making of the Western World" as is a fascinating look at this phenomenon.

I think the real question should be are you a follower of Jesus or a “Christian nationalist “? If you follow Jesus, you know that He loves the whole person. And pro-life means pro life in all areas not just birth. I argued this fact with a friend in 2016 when 47 was running. I stand by that. As Pope Leo is showing, a follower of Jesus follows ALL of Jesus’ teachings including being against the death penalty and against forcing immigrants out of our country along with being pro birth.

We need to remember that the many MAGA comments are often trollers not real people.

Catholics who voted for Trump and still support his policies have chosen Trump over their faith.

Its not the Catholic fringe. White Catholics voted for Trump's terrorism, racism, bigotry, misogyny, and fascism by a large majority. They will support, by a large majority, the terrorism, racism, bigotry, misogyny, and fascism that Trump and his regime produce over the next four years.

I am a cradle Catholic and if I had a public position I would never openly criticize the pope, regardless of which pope. The pope is the head of the Catholic Church and publicly criticizing him is disrespectful. But I put the Catholic Church over politics.

The Devine Comedy has new acts.

Pope Leo is taking us on the path that Dante described so well in prose. The code of literary intelligence to give us a glimpse of the history of the growing evil of humanity into sins with a level of depth the soul could only know.

The virtues we hold are the power of light that guides us through the circles of acceptance. A decision not based on a conscious choice.

That conscious choice was made long ago. The decision is made in a mirror of reflection our acts when we had a choice.

Not all acts are of intent. Ignorance is a form of knowledge and how we obtain knowledge and seek redemption through empathy and education.

Forgiveness of sins is a virtue. Not a choice of the guilty. It can be an act that decides the outcome in the fate of justice.

He’s pointing out hypocrisy and asking for more self-reflection and empathy. Who has the mote in his eye, who has beam?
