Seminarians are leaving the country, priests worry they could be next, and Pope Leo XIV insists the Church must stand with its most vulnerable faithful.
The pastor of my parish was born in Texas and grew up in Iowa where we are. He definitely looks Hispanic and likes to go to Chicago on weekends. He went last weekend and made the comment that he could be picked up by ICE. Another priest made the comment during a homily that if ICE comes to our parish they could pick up our pastor too. This is insane! Many priests from other countries are going back to their own countries so they don’t end up in an ICE detention center. People of every religion have the right to worship. There is a priest shortage in the U.S. What will happen if priests from other countries refuse to come here or are not allowed to come here?
We have a shortage because the Catholic Church put us in this position with all their skullduggery. Thankfully, they did the right thing and elected an American Pope who is not afraid to speak the truth. The time is right now to soften the rules on marriage and allowing female priests.
What i find interesting is Trump making statements about attacks on Christians in Nigeria (islamist attacks are on both Muslims and Christians with the majorityof victims being muslim) while effectively he has introduced a policy at home that targets Catholics at home (it is likely that the majority of those picked up ICE raids who are racially profiled are Catholics). Meanwhile the vice president cosplays as a Catholic while justifying this cruelty against real Catholics.
This remotely related but I need to warn others. Hallow the “ Catholic “ prayer app removed my prayer intention for Kilmar Abrego Garcia that I posted when he was deported to the El Salvador prison. I no longer subscribe, but never get a response to article links about what is happening to immigrants. I don’t understand how anyone who is truly a follower of Christ can support what this government is doing.
Christ was NEVER a law breaker. He never counseled his followers to disobey legal authority. Stop listening to Popo the Clown’s drivel about love everything when Christ the King is a righteous judge. As God he divides light from darkness. He is the Light and the darkness flees from Him. He is a divider who punishes reprobates and rewards the righteous. Lawlessness is nowhere elevated in Christian ethics and morality.
That piece carried the grief of a gospel and the courage of a field report. You can feel the incense, the fear, and the faith all mixing in the same air. It’s not just about policy anymore, it’s about presence — priests risking visas, families praying through Wi-Fi because sanctuaries no longer feel safe.
You can almost hear Christ whispering, “I was a stranger, and you deported me.”
I'm thankful for the Catholic churches leadership on this issue. I wish more protestant churches, including mine would share the same care for the migrant population
Thx for this moving post. What a surprise to see the reference to Bishop Joseph Tyson - I remember him as a new priest in the Seattle area decades ago!
Donald is not a leader fighting for his people.
He is a tyrant insisting on his privilege.

And as an aside, JD Vance and Peter Thiel are Hallow investors.
I verified this. Peter Theil is an investor.
Looks like Thiel is an "angel" investor but Alex Jones is different from the Infowars Jones
Thank goodness!
