America’s Catholic bishops elected two defenders of migrants as their new leaders. The move, encouraged by Pope Leo, signals that welcoming the stranger is now core to the Church’s pro-life mission.
This regime is violating the migrants rights including their right of freedom of religion. Any person in this country has those rights according to the Constitution and tRump and his minions have taken upon themselves to speak for all when in fact they speak for only those that are too ignorant to comprehend that racism is a deadly sin and the most negative effect of pride
Thanks again Christopher for your work. I am very concerned that I have not heard one peep of concern raised from the USCCB regarding the death of 70+ souls killed in international waters by US military bombing non-combatants in boats.
“Back in January, days after Trump took office, Coakley reminded Catholics that Jesus himself was a refugee. “
They all knew Project 2025 yet they waited until AFTER Trump took office to speak. Piss poor planning or lack of courage?
How much credibility does one give in any context to +Coakley after he sided with excommunicated Archbishop Vigano over Pope Francis?? This alone shows how out of touch with true missionary discipleship the majority of US bishops are. By the time +Flores’ turn to lead comes around (end of Trump’s term) the U.S. church will be a skeleton of itself and a pawn of The Napa Institute whom +Coakley advises.
Thank you, Joe, for posting this. +Coakley doesn’t deserve as much praise as Christopher is giving him. His backing of the disgraced AB Vigano and his close ties to the Napa Institute counter everything that Pope Leo stands for. I am not encouraged that he was elected the USCCB president. Michael Sean Winters of the NCR has a good piece on these elections. +Flores on the other hand is magnificent. A true champion of the poor, the immigrant, the outcast.
From National Catholic Reporter - The depressing result of the US bishops' conference presidential election
“Oh! And one other interesting point about this [2025 USCCB] meeting — after several years standing outside during bishops’ conference meetings, praying the rosary and delivering open letters read aloud to his brothers, Bishop Joe Strickland has literally come in from the cold, and is attending this meeting as an ordinary emeritus — a right he has always had the option to exercise, and seems now to be comfortable taking. ”

💯 thank you for sharing the Winters piece Father. God bless and keep you 🎼 🎶 🎵
Had never known about the NAPA institute until reading your post here and then looking it up. Unbelievable!
I have Tim Busch’s Facebook posts that are even more unbelievable. They flaunt that they have bought & can sell the US church.
POPE LEO IS THE WORLD'S VOICE OF MORALITY!
Thank you for this reporting!
My concern about Coakley is he has said anyone who votes for a supporter of abortion is committing a grave sin. I hope he doesn’t focus on that.
