Six independent reports and two round-ups now exist about the January 22 meeting. Three official denials have followed. The contention at the center of all of it comes down to a single word: Avignon.
Honestly, I can’t see any reason for Pentagon officials to be speaking to representatives of the Catholic Church unless they are contemplating extending an invitation to a ceremony or a speaking engagement. The meeting seems more like a trip to the woodshed.
Furthermore, “Avignon Papacy” is not part of anyone’s every day vernacular. Those words were chosen deliberately as a not too subtle threat. The fact that the Pentagon felt entitled to extend its influence over the Pope should scare the hell out of anyone concerned about the separation of church and state.
Very interesting. One thing is for sure, I do not believe one word about anything that comes out of the mouth of anyone within the Trump administration. So thanks for the insight on the controversy surrounding this meeting.
That you are continuing to search for the truth gives me great hope. It is a search I've spent many of my 72 years involved with. I appreciate your work. Thank you.
This level of intrigue is too much for me to digest. My level of interest is moderate in this debate.
And that is ok.
What is important to me is how Letters from Leo has recently grown in stature, respect, and connection to a wider audience.
What is also important is that you have keenly documented this story.
I called my Senators & Rep right away. Hegseth & Colby are not fit for govt work. They do not represent the people.

Excellent. This is fair, and well-documented.
Thanks for reading, David. Appreciate your DM and holding me to account!
You are welcome, Christopher.
I honestly think this has a chance to be a good community, and a good place for people to be.
Perhaps a place where holiness, and goodness, are fostered.
It will be a good community only if we hold each other to account, and if we are absolutely, flawlessly accurate in what we say.
That is how we move forward in holiness, in the name of Christ, and how we stand on principle.
In the current political climate in this country, honesty, caritas, truth, loyalty, trust, and faith will prove the mightiest of candles.
Well Done !
