Cardinals Cupich, McElroy, and Tobin sat for their first joint interview — and credited Pope Leo XIV with inspiring them to speak out against the Iran war and mass deportations.
Thank you for sharing this and giving me hope as a Catholic democrat who attends a parish where the majority voted for Trump. It has been a difficult 15 months. As the beautiful, thoughtful Cardinals speak out it gives Catholics permission to search their souls — where I and many others hope they see the only way to keep the faith is to turn away from Trump — to turn toward Jesus and his teachings of love for each other.
We need the pope to be explicit and brief. Here’s a draft for him; “The war with Iran is unjust and every Catholic in the world is compelled to oppose it as such.”
The Pope’s prophetic messaging is NOT being amplified in local Sunday/daily Masses. I’m doing a project on the ground — attending/observing Masses and asking clergy after Mass WHY they are not amplifying the Catholic social teaching of Pope Leo — specifically in regards to the dehumanization of immigrants, the marginalization of the poor and the injustice of the Iran War. Their responses would set your hair on fire. One priest said to my face: Pope Leo doesn’t have my email address. To which I responded: What are we doing here? Are we doing Jesus??? OR are we doing politics? ✝️
I travel quite a bit and have noticed that reflecting the Pope's messaging can vary substantially. Years ago, I asked my pastor to please consider including the poor and marginalized in prayers of the faithful.... after a change in administration had to repeat the request. I believe that the Apostolate of Laity is very important and our voices within the church are as important as our votes in democratic governance. Write to the Bishops, pastors, etc. ... always consider>>> What Would Jesus DO/SAY? Peace.
I could not agree more— I wouldn’t be surprised if the Pope’s message is being proclaimed at the Spanish Masses at our parish, especially given that our area has been subject to ICE depredations since the beginning (Southern California), but at the English Masses, it’s just a vague prayer of the faithful asking that world leaders seek peace. Nothing in the homily. Can’t tick off the loud MAGA parishioners, I guess.
I am so proud of the Catholic Church!! These radical so called Christians are named in the bible. They are false prophets, to mislead us from good and into evil. I read The Hague has issued warrants for Trump, Netanyahu and Hegseth to answer for war crimes, plural! They are now wanted in 127 countries and will be arrested if they set foot on any of them. Hope they travel soon!
I overall enjoyed the cardinals' interview. Although CBS is too shy to say it, especially nowadays, I don't believe that election data from 2024 which O'Donnell mentioned *truly* cited that most Catholics voted for "that guy." Congress finally had a hearing about Elon Musk's America PAC, which sent forged ballots to Georgia and Pennsylvania, and then election offices tossed these forgeries (but likely didn't inform these voters their ballot was rejected), disenfranchising millions of votes. Not to mention how the hurricanes in Georgia left many without a proper address to send a ballot. Oh, and the sweepstakes in Pennsylvania Musk promoted was only punished with a fine, which was a minimal amount of Musk's riches. I guess it's smart that the cardinals didn't mention the election corruption caveat, though I think especially now that Congress has discussed the corrupted results, the mainstream broadcasters ought to as well. Ah well, maybe once Anderson Cooper leaves he'll open his own station with his Vanderbilt fortune that can express a fuller point of view.

More of this from more people would make a real difference.

I encourage you to simply ask the priests and deacons why. They need to be peacefully challenged and very few are doing so. 🙏

Thank You Christopher! Thank You for bringing this to the front!

So happy to read that these 3 Cardinals stand firmly with Pope Leo 🕊️🕊️🕊️
Attacking Greenland didn’t work. So he attacks the smallest country in the world.
Enjoyed this interview
Great 60 minutes!! Thank you!!
