Thousands will be baptized, confirmed, and received into the Catholic Church at Easter Vigil Masses tonight. This is what I wish someone had told me when I was the only person under sixty in the pew.
This is such a good message. I definitely am in the camp of having some quiet skepticism, often wondering if they are listening to the message of the Pope or those like Vance. It's hard not to wonder what their motives are but just have to remember they have their own path towards God.
I totally get this, because I am joining the Church tonight and wondering the same. But I am joining for God and for myself. I just feel lucky to have received the call and be receiving the Sacraments while Leo is Pope. I’m praying everyone keeps a similar perspective.
I hope you find fulfillment in the church! I've always been a Catholic but didn't start taking it seriously until Pope Francis. I'm glad Pope Leo has a similar sense of moral authority.
To be precise, I got the call during Pope Francis’s tenure… but that’s not really the point. My parish priest told me I’d taken longer to discern than anyone he’s known 😆😅 Leo is a huge inspiration and such an encouragement on this journey I’m on. And this Substack is so encouraging too!!
As a lapsed cradle Catholic, this resonates a lot. That pull you wrote about is always present. There is a humanity and mercy in the Church that I have found nowhere else. So, tomorrow I will be going to Mass for the first time in 10 years. I wish you all a very joyous Easter!
Reading this as the sun sets and Easter vigil celebrations begin in my time zone, I feel a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. For the candidates & catechumens I’ve helped and for the doubts & regrets that still pierce me. God’s mercy for you & me. He is risen, He is truly risen!
The House and the Senate, the Courts in their robes,
Protecting the rights across all of the globes. 📜
The States are the anchors of local command,
With sovereign rights across all of the land.
They balance the Federal reach and its might,
To keep our Republic shining and bright. 🌟
But shifts in the wind bring a chilling new tone,
Where police state tactics are frequently shown.
Since the start of this term, we have seen a new way,
Where communities suffer in shadows of gray. ⛓️
The focus has moved from the school and the park,
To surveillance and sirens that glow in the dark.
When order is used to diminish the soul,
The people must rise to regain their control. 👮
It’s We the People who hold the real key,
To keep ourselves prosperous, happy, and free.
By getting involved in the things that we see,
We build the foundation of true liberty. 🗽
Don’t let the billionaires dictate the pace,
Or big business interests take up all the space.
They look at the numbers but we look at lives,
Ensuring that every last neighbor survives. 📈
When wealth is the ruler, the spirit grows thin,
And that is a battle we cannot let win.
We need those in government who understand,
That people come first in this beautiful land. ❤️
The Legislative branch must hear every plea,
The Executive follow the law’s high decree.
The Judicial must stand for the fair and the right,
To keep our democracy burning and bright. 🕯️
If you want a change from the heavy-set hand,
You must take a stance for the soul of the land.
Go volunteer where the help is most due,
And bring the community spirit through you. 🧱
Your vote is a weapon against the elite,
A way to ensure that the plan is complete.
Electing the leaders who treasure the small,
And promise to answer the community’s call. 🗳️
The sovereignty we hold is a sacred, deep trust,
To keep our laws honest and keep our lives just.
It’s more than a slogan or ink on a page,
It’s the wisdom of every American age. 🕰️
Turn back from the police state and look to the heart,
Where local engagement is where we all start.
With three branches steady and people aware,
We’ll fix every break and we’ll mend every tear. 🧵
Keep the Lantern alight as you walk through the night,
And stand for the values you know to be right.
For Democracy lives when we all do our part,

I try to live a good life, to be a kind, generous person and forgiving person, but I am unable to believe in the resurrection. I recognise and respect this is a basic and essential tenet, but it represents an enormous bar to entry for many of us and it’s a pity, because the world needs more connection, community and kindness. Just thought you should hear from those of us outside the tent.
