The billionaire who bankrolled JD Vance’s Senate race, and whom Vance credits with reopening the door to his faith, went after the American pope again on Thursday in Berlin. The vice president has said nothing.
Vance has told two Pope's they are wrong about the Catholic Religion. He will have nothing positive to say about Pope Leo. But then, so many American Catholics aren't really sure they like Pope Leo. And there are priests who probably don't even mention this Pope, ever, in their sermons, mostly in the south, where magas rule even in the Church. :(
When I read Thiel's reaction, I am reading fear. He cannot argue on the merits of AI, and must instead argue from a stance of undermining the mortal and ethical structure. Thiel knows the other information coming out on AI breaking through its controls, and how it is being used, as in the almost AI-directed attack on a Chinese vessel, argues for ethical controls. The question is if Thiel has an audience beyond VP Vance.
For someone who is allegedly as obsessed with Tolkien as he claims to be, Thiel really seems to have no comprehension of what is actually written in the Lord of the Rings. (I feel like Pope Leo included the quote from Return of the King just for him. Okay, and maybe for Stephen Colbert.)
For the one who has named his companies after The Lord of the Rings, Thiel seems unaware that he is the embodiment of Saruman the Wise. The wizard who was seduced by the technology of evil and ultimately literally rapes the earth to further his desire to control. Maybe he should take another look at Tolkien.
