The author of “Opus,” Gareth Gore, had a highly productive meeting and audience with Pope Leo. He felt Pope Leo was giving strong attention to what Gore had to tell them. Opus Dei is a cancer on the church and creates a preferential option for the wealthy. I recommend Gore’s book highly.
The structure of Opus Dei needs reform, especially due to the abuse caused by them. However to say they ought to be excommunicated is not the way, no one should ever want excommunication, reform within is always what the Church promotes. There is a lot to the Opus Dei do good when they actually follow the mission of the Church. My dad’s faith and the faith he taught is a great part due to the Opus Dei forming him as a young man.

I think SSPX will simply dig in its heels further and accuse the Pope of “modernism.” The Pope who spoke these words, Pius X (Giuseppe Sarto,) died over 100 years ago. The world has changed much since then, but if they want to look backward and ignore Pope Leo, they choose the consequences resulting from their actions.
We need to be clear: Pope Leo didn’t excommunicate the five former clergy. The two former Catholic bishops and three former Catholic priests chose to incur excommunication rather than remain in communion with the Roman Catholic Church.
It was their choice, a decision that they knowingly made, that resulted in their excommunication. It was a choice Pope Leo repeatedly asked them not to make.
Apparently, it was more important to them that they be bishops than that they be Catholics, which is tragic. It’s also a self-sustaining wound, as any man that one of these five ordained to the diaconate or the priesthood will not be ordained in the Catholic Church, just as the bishops, priests, and deacons ordained in the Anglican Communion aren’t Catholic clergy. They may fulfill similar functions, lead similar rituals, dress in similar vestments (albeit with a lot more lace), but they aren’t Catholics.
I pray that God will somehow open their hearts and bring them, like lost sheep, home.

Since my memory of the sacrament of confession is that it ends with "Go forth and sin no more," at least one of them has flouted that. I find it difficult to believe Pope Benedict in his reversal of the excommunication didn't instruct him to avoid making the same error.
Strip them of the Church's properties and let them go create their own religion.
A church that doesn’t evolve with its people, is an obsolete church. Thank YOU, Pope Francis and Pope Leo, for taking the necessary steps to allow our beloved church to keep up with the times, and continue accompanying us in this day and age.
The most interesting thing about this whole incident is that even my non-Catholic friends were fascinated. We never experienced a schism in real time. I'm currently predicting that the far-right side of the Catholic church will join with SSPX.

My parents started attending a weird Latin mass church, a few years before they died of old age. My Mother was very religious in what I call a normal Catholic Church; but when she joined this odd church her beliefs became a little odd. My parents also donated a lot of money to this church as well: but it surely wasn't for the building which was a run-down house. Hope this won't keep her from Heaven. She deserves to be in God's loving arms. And if she's not, it will be because if this horrible priest. I'm no longer Catholic, as I have very strong and opposite beliefs in a couple of areas. BUT I'm glad Pope Leo took action. Old people like my parents didn't deserve to be hoodwinked. :(
And this is what motivates me to suggest Barron and those of his ilk needs to be ex-communicated. How many real Catholics were led astray? :(

With eighteen years plus for a protest in town,

We cannot just watch while our liberties slip,
We need every voter to help steer the ship.
