Just when I thought things might change with the new pope.

Bishops, you were used. The term useful idiots is very applicable.

What sort of example does this set? Endorsing and fawning over a serial adulterer, convicted fraud, adjudicated rapist and war criminal? Pray for his reform in private or in church by all means but a public boost like this is wrong on conduct alone.

Do you know how confusing this is for parishioners. Further, I don’t know who to trust, making participation in confession impossible. I see Bishop Baron buddying up to Trump. Trump is nothing like the sinners Jesus ran with. Jesus’ sinners were repentant. Their lives changed. Trump is not moved to change, and neither is anyone in his Administration. Jesus washed the Apostles feet. These Bishops and priests are leading Catholics astray. I can’t even trust my priest with my soul because he refers to Bishop Baron during his sermons.

I might have a talk with the monsignor of my parish if he referred to Bishop Barron now. I am still looking for an intelligent Rationale for his "buddying up to Trump."

These are men with decades of leadership development, along with political and media savvy. Historic video. Disgusting.

While I don't agree with what happened, I am also seeing this as a larger attempt by the Trump regime and Heritage Foundation to create divisiveness in the Catholic Church and to take a poke at a very popular Pope. They seemed to have achieved their goal of divisiveness and distraction.

These bishops have defied our Pope and Jesus’ flock. Shame. St Michael the Archangel lead us in battle. Now we must battle our bishops.

I am converting to Catholicism, partially because I see that Pope Leo is awash with the Holy Spirit. This act was a slap in the face of His Holiness, and an insult to all Catholics (and wannabe Catholics like me) who are trying to speak loving but righteous truth to power in the model of our Savior. We all need to follow Jesus and the Pope in saying NO to these bishops…and to our own priests and fellow parishioners when they insult immigrants, excuse rape and corruption, and support so much that is obviously not of the gospel. This is not partisan or political, this is spiritually existential.

Too little, too late. A traitor to Jesus.

Thank you for this article, Chris. You’re on very solid ground asking for some reasoning.

Golka’s a proud man and he thinks an apology would make him look weak in front of his flock. It would be the opposite but….

I see they also were meeting about school choice. They want to reach in our congregations in both our pockets…give to the church and pay your taxes to Catholic schools. Crafty bunch those bishops. I was going to leave the church 10 years ago because our priest was too political. Now…either they apologize or more of us will leave and your pews and finances will be nothing.

Same old shit, different day! He probably likes pedophilia too. Sad. I thought they were going to crack down on joker priests like this?!

Don’t blame Pope Leo for what 12 misguided Bishops did- They are men- not Gods and should all be apologizing to Pope Leo and all people in general. Sanctioned in some way for not thinking things through would be good too. Stupidity comes to mind but it’s not my place to judge- although I do have a right to voice my opinion!

But it IS our place to judge the actions of those who absolutely need to do better! If this is what our Bishops think is righteous we have bigger issues. They gave every appearance of condoning and offering comfort to a convicted RAPIST! What the actual F**k!

Today, I signed your letter, then sent an email to and a voicemail with Archbishop Grob's office.

Awesome. Apparently if you call as an Epstein defender he will call you back.

This just really bums me out! I left my church here in town because they tried to get us to vote for him the first time. I tried reasoning with our priests and telling them things I knew about that man that maybe they didn’t. Nope, I’m always the one who just doesn’t understand. But now, after everything we know that is fact, what a traitor djt is, what a user, and abuser, for them to do this, it’s just an outrage. I’m never going back to the Catholic religion. I just can’t. They’ve failed us.
