This is such good news. Pope Leo is the moral leader the world so desperately needs today. I love him so much. Thank you for keeping us informed. 🙏

What can we the readers do to bring awareness to the reality that the Pope's views and suggestions are NOT trickling down to the local level. Nothing. Zip. Nada. I attend Mass within the Diocese of Venice in SW Florida. Without substack I would not know about the Pope's views or the actions of a handful of brave priests and cardinals. The local churches must do better.

Have you tried a different church? Go to YouTube and follow Vatican News. There is always something on there about Pope Leo. YouTube, Threads, and Substack are where I get the majority of my news.

Thank you. I do visit the various threads and substack. That said, I would appreciate hearing the priest, bishop, etc. of my local parish support the Pope and speak against the atrocities.

I can see that. What about a different parish? I switched parishes five years ago. Outside of mass one day a Hispanic woman and kids were there. I didn’t see her but I heard about this. Her husband had just been picked up by ICE and she was scared. Some people gave her money. Later some parishioners said to those who gave her money to not do that because they didn’t want needy people there. It’s a suburban neighborhood and I switched to a church downtown with homeless people around.

Have you asked the priest at your church to speak about what is going on? They can do it without naming specific names. My pastor gave an amazing homily yesterday about what a true Catholic is, welcoming the stranger, feeding the poor and homeless, end the racism, and said other things.

You know what. I haven't. The pastor of the church we left said in his homily that guns don't kill people. My husband tried to talk about it and it didn't go well. Guess I don't want to stir the pot again.

I attend Mass in NW Florida. Both our locations are hotbeds of MAGA influence, so we won't know through our parishes of the Church's opposition to Trump. And that's why I'm here as well.

If ever a pope was made for the moment, Leo XIV is the one.

I've been following "Letters from Leo" regularly, but (times being what they are) I may have missed a few. Have you commented on the fact that six of the nine U.S. Supreme Court justices identify as Catholic? Roberts, Alito, Thomas, Kavanaugh, Barrett, and Sotomayor. (Gorsuch was raised Catholic but is now Episcopalian.) Of the six, Sotomayor is like the Catholics I've known all my life who were in the trenches for social justice: the Berrigan brothers, Dorothy Day, etc., etc. The others I don't understand at all. I'm looking for more insight into where they're coming from and what being Catholic means to them.

I have great respect for all three of the Cardinals. They each bring their own strengths. I’m not surprised they spoke out because they have always addressed problems. Pope Leo is addressing the situation with Trump and will continually speak about it.

Please provide a link to the actual statement.

Cardinal Cupich said Mass at my church in 2019 when then Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović was in Pittsburgh for the anniversary of the founding of the Croatian Fraternal Union.

Hi, Jennifer! It's linked a few times in the article, but here's the original: https://adw.org/news/joint-statement-morality-u-s-foreign-policy-english/

Even though it was only three cardinals it’s a good beginning. I think we will see some more involvement along these lines with the recent appointments Pope Leo has made to lead a number of prominent diocese: Bishop Ronald Hicks in the Archdiocese of New York (I believe Pope Leo will eventually make him a cardinal); Bishop Manuel de Jesus Rodriquez, who was pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows the largest parish in NYC to the Diocese of Palm Beach, Fl.; Bishop Earl Fernandez, the first Catholic bishop of Indian heritage to lead the Diocese of Columbus, the capital of Ohio. I believe these three new bishops share Pope Leo’s worldview.

I wonder if this finally will tone down Barron’s statements.

I’m glad they’re speaking out. I would’ve expected that letter to go to Norway, but regardless of that, it’s written by a deranged person, and we must keep praying for everyone victimized by his destruction and also pray for him and all his enablers, that their eyes and hearts will be opened.

The horror, though, is that only 3 cardinals made statements.
