Archbishop Edward Weisenburger stood with immigrants in Clark Park on Friday, eight days after twelve bishops prayed over Trump. Days before the vote, he showed Catholics where a shepherd belongs.
I AM SO PROUD OF BISHOP WEISENBURGER!!!! He was recently the bishop in Tucson! I got to witness his amazing homilies through the Covid lockdown and he always spoke with such conviction! He inspired me so much and continues to!!!!
This makes me proud to be a Catholic! I stand with those immigrants as well! We all should, as we all come from immigrant stock and are all God’s children. At times I struggle with my Catholic faith and what it even means anymore, especially when I see bishops in DC praying over Trump, not with him, but over him! What was that even about?
“Where would Jesus be today?” That is indeed the question. And the answer is not with Caesar, with the money changers, with those who immiserate the poor and the stranger in their midst.
Great post (again), Chris. If your time permits, I would love to read something about the USCCB over the past fifty or sixty years or so, as Popes have come and gone, migration has increased, other religions have made their presence known, the environment/climate has changed…and how any or all of these have fired up or toned down the USCCB’s involvement in societal concerns. I am loving the current public presence of the Catholic religious on the immigration issues in the U.S. Thank you.
I have family living in the Detroit area who claim to be Catholic yet support ICE activity. I hope their Archbishop will help them find a different perspective.
I’m an admirer of Archbishop Weisenburger. Firing those three theologians put him on the map for me. They deserved being let go given how they had treated Pope Francis.
By the way, I have a friend who lives in Grosse Pointe Park, MI. She’s a big Trump supporter. But even she doesn’t bring Trump’s name much any more.
EWTN should do the same thing to Raymond Arroyo for the same reason. Arroyo advocates for the MAGA cult as a "contributor" to FOX News and then brings the snark to EWTN.
Please Chris, I know the Midterms are a big deal, but stop putting them at the headlines. This sounds like you're saying the Church is motivated by the election, and/or that it is partisan. It is not — the most "political" it gets, the least partisan it gets. I don't mean this as an attack to you, but please stop doing that at random.
I'm so glad to hear about this.

He provides homilies for every Sunday reading on YouTube. I almost never miss them.
Thank you for reminding us of our call to be those who are called to care for our neighbors. MT 25 in action.

The Archbishop is the most uplifting one in Detroit in 50+ years.
