This is the most gross and sickening things I have seen. I have never heard of any administration taking such joy in hurting and killing humanity, animals and our environment. I am so angry with all of them from Trump on down and don't know how there is no decency in his administration that can put a stop to this. And then the fact that they say they are Christian and even some are Catholic. I won't be happy to see Trump dead but I would love to see him and all these corrupt followers of his rot in jail.
What a lot of people seem to forget is that in the Year 2000 the United Nations adopted 8 Millennium Development Goals: 1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger; 2 Achieve Universal Primary Education; 3. Promote Gender Equality and empower women; 4. Improve Maternal Health; 5. Reduce Child Mortality; 6. Combat HIV/AIDS; 7. Ensure environmental Sustainability; 8. Develop a Global Partnership for development. Those goals were adopted nearly universally by all the member nations of the UN, including the United States, to be achieved by 2015. And they were. World poverty was halved in 15 years.
I don't know what shifted, but a lot of effort has been put into forgetting what was accomplished -- and trying to eradicate those gains. It would be useful, I think, to spend more effort on publicizing the good we as a people did and encouraging we the people to support the United Nations to accomplish more.
Musk and his coterie of billionaires and paid-for politicians have stolen all the air time. Their gains are paper. Those of the Millennium Development Goals were real. If we accept the challenge of these targets set by the Sustainable Development Goals for 2030, I have no doubt we as a people can achieve them, an accomplishment that would also satisfy the precepts of charity and generosity so admirably espoused by Pope Leo XIV.
Have you heard of Opus Dei? That may be the entire answer to your question as to "what shifted". Like "all" anti-UN activities may directly and indirectly appear to lead back to Opus Dei. Yesterday I asked a neighbor who is a practicing Catholic about her prez attacking Pope Leo. First she said she doesn't listen to the news and she wants everyone to just get along. (She's a retired teacher, and a full maga.) I told her this wasn't the news, this was running emails, of a Catholic following Pope Leo. She shrugged her shoulders. I asked has your priest said anything about this, and she said no. why would he? WOW I asked if it might concern her and she said no, her president calls everyone names. I said calls them names and threatens them? She said nothing. When I said I thought Pope Leo was a very holy man, she kind of glared at me. I got the impression she wasn't a fan.
What IS going on in Catholic Churches in the red states? Seems to me priests and bishops and cardinals should be talking about the threats. I guess it's okay for the priests to tell their parish members they'll go to Hell if they vote for Biden...but it's not okay to defend their own Pope? sigh Pope Leo needs all the prayers he can get: even from those who are not Catholic. As a practicing Catholic, I live in Texas, I have never heard a priest say that a vote for Biden would cause us to go to hell. All the Priest I have had for Mass have never spoken about politics. They stick to the Gospels.
However; the Deacons try to talk politics. I email the current priest and he stops it.

Fox news on in thebackground...and any new information presented outside this bubble is deemed fake or evil because the "Dems are evil". She has been known to spout sedevacantism and benavacantism-sounding values and "facts" - she strongly believes that Obama AND HIllary ( because of course Hillary is made out to be the most evil Democrat) made Ratzinger resign, Francis was evil, and doesn't trust Leo now. Why? the pre-Vatican II orders' smear campaigns. She is in Texas. She is my litmus test to what's being spouted out there. One of these days, I'll get up the courage to ask the name of the radio shows and then I bet we'll track them back to Leonard Leo's network.

While it is slightly complicated, to know there were and are today, Pro pre-Vatican II Catholic Orders that were opposed to Vatican II, that believe in Integralism and want Christendom ( conversion to Catholicism by sword) to return... to the world.... ( and they have used spiritual guidance as well coordinated leadership stances ( think of the most recent State-issued school vouchers) to lead their parishes. I’m in a red state and I can honestly say that the bishops speak out frequently in support of immigration, the poor the homeless. In my diocese I know most of the churches have immigrants in them and priests to talk about how the gospels apply to us.
