Florida’s attorney general gave the bishops until August 7 to accept vaccine exemptions their own doctrine calls dishonest. Nearly nine in ten of the state’s Catholic school students sit downstream.
Until Trump and Covid the majority of Americans vaccinated their children to keep them safe. Trump refused to wear a mask and that set off a firestorm against government policies. I keep saying when polio comes and kills people or handicaps them for life they will wish they had been vaccinated and vaccinated their children. Polio is nothing to play around with.
The 20th century is full of the history of Catholic resistance movements refusing to comply with the arbitrary doctrines of the totalitarian state (the previous centuries are also replete with examples).
When I was a student at St.Martin’s Parish Elementary School, one of the Sisters,our teacher, said that “we don’t want government funding because they will then tell us what we can or must do.”Reflect on what we just read!!! Thank you!!!
Leave it to FL to lead the way in telling religious institutions what they have to do. So much for freedom to practice one’s religion without interference from the state. And here it is in the interest of compelling religious schools to contribute to the spreading of preventable disease to vulnerable populations, contrary to religious doctrine.
It is a shame the folks in FL seem determined to empower these performing buffoons.
So the anti-vax doctrine outweighs the First Amendment; government 'policy' has more power than the real 'right to life' movement, as vaccines promote life. This is a travesty.
A compelling argument for why Catholic schools should not take vouchers and should not support them as a political matter. It’s hard to believe that centuries of enduring and/or cooperating with corrupt governments has taught us so little.

Has Bishop Barron said anything or will he remain silent about MAGA attacking the church yet again?
