A Missouri jail proposed that priests hand the Eucharist to a guard in a package. Archbishop Rozanski sued on Monday — two days after Cardinal Cupich demanded access to ICE detainees.
Catholics believe that the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliation are essential to their salvation. Whether the government believes this or not is irrelevant, and it is blatant hypocrisy for it to proclaim Religious freedom and deny it to any group.
Surely this is an issue that must unite people of every religion. The Trump government never cases to proclaim itself as brought about by God, but continuously prevents its population from carrying out the essential message of Jesus and every other faith based on love of and service to others.
Catholics believe that the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Reconciliatin
This happening in the USA, where we are supposed to have religious freedom, is beyond the pale. As Catholics believe, their confession is first of all, necessary and second of all, private. It is between him or her and they're confessor and the confessor is sworn to secrecy. So how can it be that anyone should confess over a phone line that someone else of dubious identity can listen to. Secondly, to prevent them from receiving the Eucharist should be criminal. There is obviously no one within the facility who is authorized to distribute the Eucharist so it must go directly from the priest to the penitent. To think that most of these people have only committed a minor infraction and are being imprisoned is beyond what should be allowed and to prevent them, in this country where we champion freedom of religion, should not be allowed.
This is enough to make one tear one’s hair out. The Sacrament of Reconciliation and the Eucharist are fundamental to the practice of Catholicism, and to deny them to ANY Catholic is to deny them the free exercise of their religion. Dear God, when will this horror end?
This administration supports the rights of bakers to refuse service that conflicts with their religious beliefs and county clerks to refuse to marry same-sex couples, but refuses to allow imprisoned Catholics to take the Eucharist; this is hypocrisy at its most egregious.

Please accept this in the spirit it’s meant to convey - YES. Love the pushback 👏🏻
