Vance’s theology is actually worse than his grammar, which is itself deplorable.

Who the hell does this guy think he is??? Or any of them for that matter.

Margaret Benson's avatar

He said he is the highest ranking Catholic official in the White House. He may start wearing a red hat.

I am an unregenerate grammarian and find "Catholic leadership has learned from some of the things that me and Marco and the president have said" totally unacceptable. I do that to keep from the horror of what "me and he and he" said from ruining the rest of my day.

I immediately cringed when I saw that quote from Vance. Ugh. As if telling off the Pope isn’t enough…hideous grammar too.

The arrogance of JDV to think he is more knowledgeable, more spiritual, more correct about the theological positions, beliefs and practices of the Catholic Church and the audacity to “correct” the pope because he is the VP of the US is unbelievably bombastically ignorant and stupid!

If only the factories could find workers that work after the immigrant is detained and deported. These actions in the long term actually hurt businesses. Sadly many of these jobs immigrants work, no American will. We need to look at broken systems in total. How do those in poverty get out of poverty? Secure communities and education for starters. But we are not helping families have a leg up. We create systems that keep a family down and can’t afford to come off of services. The administration has also helped pull billions of dollars of funding for public education. Obviously we could all go on and on with more broken systems with answers that politicians won’t touch because A-it doesn’t benefit them and/or B-they are unable to have bipartisan conversations, especially with a leader that is unable to converse intelligently about any of these things and tries to thwart bipartisan conversations at every turn.

Well, you can also say that there are many on both sides of the aisle who have been bought and have no sense of morality. We gotta keep voting all of them out!

Thank you for refusing to let up on Vance whose ‘theology’ continues to take a back seat to his ideology and subservience to Trump. While pride would be the normal response of a Catholic in having a brother in the faith serve our country in the office of Vice President, sadly, this Catholic priest of over 52 years of ministry, is utterly embarrassed by both his specious arguments and utter boorishness in attempting to lecture the Holy Father in the faith his office is mandated to confirm as the successor of Peter. Such appalling arrogance.

As a priest for 59 years, I totally agree with you, Msgr. Holquin. I would much prefer to rely on learning from the Church's Magisterium than to presume that the Magisterium can learn from me.

Amen, Monsignor! Vance needs to study more Catholic teaching.

For one who is Catholic for only a short time, JD Vance thinks the Pope can learn something from him? Give me a break!

I wish that Vance & Marco & Trump would learn something from the Pope about migrants. Then again, basic human dignity is not in their repertoire.

Such arrogance from Vance and Rubio! Vance needs remedial catechesis!

He’s just gross.

“A Catholic vice president hopes the pope has learned something about migrants from Donald Trump.”

Time for a good old-fashioned Excommunication!

This is an excellent idea! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I can’t believe that this is the guy we have representing our country! He’s an arrogant moron! As if the Vatican, THE POPE, is going to listen to him and Marco Rubio. Both are going to be going to a very dark place in the future, either in this world or the next. The immigration propaganda is so dumb! They are deporting people, and who is replacing them? Not USA citizens. I’m so tired of this guy. Stop it!

What is troubling is JD Vance’s understanding of Catholic social teaching and basic morality itself.

Right. The pope has to learn from a lying, grifting, treasonous, adjudicated rapist, convicted felon and probable pedophile.

So, the pope needs to learn how to be a criminal?

Pompous ass

For a multitude of reasons and on a multiplicity of levels, Vance is a man to ignore completely. His "beliefs" are suspect and unworthy of notice; his actions are limited, much like Shakespeare's/Faulkner's "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing." In the end, he will have to answer for himself. I doubt the Holy Father will waste much more time on him. We should do the same.

I learned the Nicene Creed when I was about 5 years old and guarantee that the placement of the sign in my yard that 'love is love' , 'water is life' , 'women's rights are human rights' , etc. has absolutely nothing to do with the Apostles' Creed.

jd vance is a faker! (He is kind of repulsive, too.)

JD is into men. Seriously. I mean let’s get real.
