I think it is important to ALWAYS clarify that Leo is the first Pope from the USA. He is the 2nd American Pope. Francis was the first. We North Americans are so self-centered! Leo's election is another signal that the Spirit wants the Church is focus on the global South.

You are absolutely correct:

The Americas=Western Hemisphere=All people of the North, Central, and South America are Americans. 🌎

Our country is divisive, full of hate and selfishness. I pray that by having Pope Leo, someone from the U.S., our attitudes will change.

One year on, Americans are grateful that we have an American other than our political leaders on the national stage.

What an incredible first year for Pope Leo XIV this has been. As a cradle Catholic I am feeling hope, belief and trust he is the right person to lead the Church and be on the national stage at this time. God bless and keep him in my daily prayers.

Your reporting that happy day was riveting. And since then you have been an essential and thought provoking chronicler of Pope Leo, his Papacy, the Vatican, the Catholic Church and the current political events. Thank you!
