At a time in our country where people are once again arguing about vaccines, a man who died from polio was canonized a saint. I read both of their stories. They had short lives but God is using them for a greater purpose.

When will we see the Vatican canonize those who spoke out and fought against clerical sex abuse in the 20th and 21st centuries? Probably when Stalin rises from the dead and becomes a Buddhist pacifist.

I find the canonization of Carlo Acutis and the cult around him to be really problematic. First, because at age 15 nobody should be canonized as a saint. Nor should they be sentenced to life in prison--for the same reason. 15 year olds aren't done growing up yet. Second, his canonization is being used by adults who want to control children--he played video games, but only an hour a week. He designed a website, but only for discussing so called "Eucharistic miracles." So you can too! (BTW "Eucharistic miracles" like bleeding hosts (ick) render all meaningful eucharistic theology moot). Also, Acutis was not a computer genius because he put together a website. Many 15 year olds could do this in 2006. Finally, there would be no need to make a "relatable saint" if anyone actually read history. The fact that he is getting more attention in Assisi than Francis, the greatest of all the saints, is really sad.

Stop being a "Karen," and accept people for what they are. As a historical theologian I can assure you there were hundreds of people people canonized as saints who were much less worthy than these two.

Please don't use the name "Karen" that way. It is so demeaning and false for thousands of wonderful women (mostly Baby Boomers and Gen Xers) who don't deserve to have their name (in many cases what they were baptized with) treated as a curse word. Very un-Christian!
