No apology needed, Christopher Hale, for continuing to "bird dog" this scandalous event on the part of 12 Bishops. Please keep doing this work!!! Your clear, discerning, moderate voice telling the truth is what is needed now. Thank you!!

The bishops who have not responded must surely know that this isn’t just going to fade away. Whether they are actually Trump supporters or merely hopelessly naive, they have to know how their actions are perceived by their parishioners, by their fellow bishops, and by the Pope and the Vatican. Their silence only makes it appear to have been a political choice to support Trump on the eve of the midterms.

The only positive note in all this is the perhaps surprising absence of a thirteenth bishop— Bp. Robert Barron. I cannot imagine that he wasn’t invited, and am gratified that, despite what we know of his politics, he chose not to participate so soon before the election. He deserves credit for his decision.

Barron has started to understand when he shows support of Trump, his bank account goes down with Word of Fire. Won’t hear from him until after the election.

Exactly! As they say, "Money doesn't talk, it swears."

Now the question is why the others have not said anything. It will be interesting to understand their rationale.

It is difficult when you made a deal with the devil to speak truth to power. I am thinking they were promised some wonderful deals in that Trump meeting under cover and to reprimand him would ruin their plan. The Evangelicals really duped our Catholic Bishops. 😡

No need to apologize. We need to be kept informed.

No need to apologize for keeping us updated. Thank you.

It is a pity when clerics permit themselves to be used as props for a partisan political purpose and/or refuse to acknowledge the offense when it is called to their attention (assuming they were all unaware of what was intended and/or happening at the time). This Administration has made mock of the message of the Gospels and that is no surprise to anyone who has paid attention since at least as 2015 and, in fact, since much earlier.

Might it be appropriate for the bishops, or their leader, to approach a major US newspaper (NYT or WSJ) and provide it with the back story and demand an apology from the Whitehouse for releasing what was believed to be a confidential gathering?

Ellen T Corcoran's avatar

'A confidential gathering', indeed! What were these Bishops hiding? Were these men of God caught violating their oath to defend the Holy Catholic Church, the Pope and to combat Free Masonry? One wonders...

The one thing that is preventing me from making a donation is where you call for a donation to support quote "my work".

I think it is a movement much larger than you and you should remove that tag as I can see and hope to inform you of how it can appear ego-driven.

Luke, his work is in the creation and continuation of this SubStack, for which he deserves a great deal of credit. “The laborer is worthy of his hire.” 1Tim. 5:18

This bishop has integrity and I’m so glad he’s speaking out! Those other bishops either they’re merely hopelessly naïve or I don’t know. How would you not know that if Trump calls you into the oval office especially a lot of you that it’s not for some photo op? Remember when he held up the Bible, upside down, a few years ago in Lafayette Square? And I’m sorry praying over that man will not help him at all because he doesn’t think he needs help and he doesn’t want the Lord‘s help. I am a follower of my Lord and Savior and that just absolutely disgust me. I’m sorry our Lord would probably dine with him, but I would not. I just feel that I could not sit in the presence of evil! I’m so happy I’ve never met that man, and I have no desire to! Everything that he has done to people, men, women, and children. It’s just unbelievable and it hurts me to my core. I asked the Lord to forgive me for the way I feel about him, but I just cannot change the way I feel and what I know down in my soul about that man.

Would it be appropriate for Chris Hale to compliment the judgment of Bishop Robert Barron who refused to attend the October session of 12 Catholic bishops w Trump at the White House?

Just asking?

Mary Susan's avatar

NO! Barron is hiding out because he understands the more he shows support for Trump the less money he brings in with Word of Fire. No praise for Barron until his actions model his words.

Monica Soule's avatar

Do we know for a fact that he was invited?

Bishop Manuel is a true man of God. Champion of radical kinship. Fearless. I had the opportunity to doc him for Sunday to Sunday - a true American saint in the making https://vimeo.com/591553934?fl=pl&fe=sh
