The pope’s Wednesday catechesis grounded the Vatican II reform in a century of papal teaching on “active participation.” This comes as JD Vance was spotted at a Traditional Latin Mass in Cincinnati.

If you think that was not true, ask any Catholic who attended Mass before 1965 how many people were saying their rosary. You stood or knelt when everyone else did, but the words in Latin didn't explain why you were doing this. My wife and I attended a Latin Mass recently, and will not attend another. Notice I said that we "attended" a Mass, we didn't really participate, and we're old enough to remember the Mass back then.
And seriously, I'm surprised how many people stayed in the Church when they couldn't understand what was going on. I know exactly what you're talking about--the women would pull out the rosaries and a lot of the men would nod off in the pew. Doesn't lend itself to prayerful participation. I get that it's hard. Minds wander, people are tired, there's lots of things to think about, but having your mind totally on something else negates the whole purpose of being there and participating.

Gosh I had forgotten the hoopla when our church switched to the participants' language. I was in 3rd grade at a Catholic school. We attended mass daily as a part of their curriculum, and all the teachers were nuns. Usually I put an interested look on my face and retreated to my imagination; but then it was in English, my primary language, and I had to listen. We were going to be quizzed after mass.
It amazes me that there are people out there who are surprised and outraged that the current successor of Peter should stand firmly in the path of the men who came before him. Leo has been preaching the documents of Vatican II for months. If they had any honesty, they would just admit (like SSPX) that they do not wish to adhere to Vatican II and would prefer that it had never happened.

All living things change, if not they die. The Church is a living body so it is normal and healthy to change, lest it does.
