I think Pope Leo would chide you for not including a women’s bracket. I love and appreciate your work, but I’m honestly disappointed here. It seems minor in light of all of the awful things going on right now, but the systematic diminishment of the importance of women is not unrelated to all of the bad things going on right now.

The commandment to not take the Lord’s name in vain prohibits the very action Hegseth is taking: attaching God’s name to things not of God. Wars of aggression are not of God

Karl Barth wrote a response to the German pastors who blessed WWI. Hé titled it "Nein." That's No in German.

I am blessed by the strong and prophetic voice the Roman Church is taking against the promulgation of war and violence. The words and actions of Mr. Hegseth and Mr. Trump ring as blasphemous to my ear.

I hear the also the cry of women in the Church seeking to be recognized for the voice and experience the Holy Spirit has gifted to them. As part of a protestant tradition that has only recently begun to empower women to preach the gospel, I am saddened when any part of God's kingdom is silenced.

Imagine if John and Peter had refused to listen to the women who proclaimed the resurrection!

Or if we did not hear the voice of the sisters: Mary and Martha?

Or of Anna the Prophetess?

Or the hemorrhaging woman?

Or the Samaritan woman?

Or the multiple women the Apostle Paul mentions who lead churches?

I may not have standing in the Roman Church, but I pray for you, for I believe we are all part of the Body of Christ. Any time the Holy Spirit is quenched anywhere in the Church, it diminishes us all.

Grace & Shalom.

To help us speak of God as merciful and on the side of the oppressed is really wonderful and of maximum importance. To not let people say “God is on our side”. God is on the side of the suffering, the oppressed. God is FOR the brokenhearted and those who are “anawim”- too unimportant for the powerful to care about. Thank you for giving us clear and strong words to proclaim the gospel and try to stop the war! Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall see God”.

Excellent piece on Pizzaballa( great name for a cardinal!) but i agree with the 2 other commenters, also women, that this substack continues on with the assumed acceptance of women as invisible congregants with no voice.....time for a big change ..if that is what you are after

Is Pizzaballa listening? Is anyone?😥
