These people are killing pregnant women in the name of life being sacred even if baby is not viable. You can NOT condemn abortion and at the same time glorify the death penalty.

Yeah for the USCCB finally using their platform to call out immorality! I have often criticized them for remaining silent, so now I will give them some support.

This is a warped nation. The fact that so many of the supporters of the administration consider themselves Christians is utterly disgusting.

The DP is not a deterrent. Live-streaming this on will probably encourage terrorists and copycats to act. Christa’s sentence should be commuted to life. Tennessee botched it. And she had mitigating circumstances and poor representation. A dream team would have gotten her life.

Thanks for liking my comment, Not a Karen. 🌻

Those promoting public executions are agents of the Evil One. Thank you, USCCB, for publicly standing up to them and giving the rest of us a model to follow.

I applaud Archbishop Coakley's clear and forthright statement, and I thank him for it. However, I regret that he indulged the Trump/Hegseth fantasy that the United States has a Department of War. We don't.

I had the same reaction as you, but I thought about it, and wondered if he was trying to look unbiased. If people saw him writing DoD, they might write off the rest of the statement as partisan. Anyway, that’s what I’m hoping

Another brazen barbaric decision and most likely to be framed as necessary. No capital punishment is necessary when there are prisons and life term sentences. The likelihood that this act of streaming an execution online will reinforce the laws of the US re irrational. I am relieved that the US Bishops responded quickly and in a clear and distinct voice to denounce this decision.

Everyone should be condemning it!

Beautifully and clearly stated. I join other in being against the death penalty, which is

unfairly chosen at sentencing for many people of color. THANK YOU for addressing this issue/

It is alarming to think of a firing quad execution and to livestream it is sickening.

Everything about this public execution is revolting. Have the so-called “Christians” behind this horror forgotten that Jesus was publicly executed in a state sanctioned killing? Rome saw him as guilty of a crime, and his execution is seen as a grave miscarriage of Justice by these same “Christians”. I am in no way excusing the horrendous actions of the perpetrator, and he should be punished, but not at the expense of our nation’s soul. I applaud Bishop Coakley’s statement, and fervently wish that Pope Leo would address this.

Too bad he erroneously called it the Dept of War.

Exactly the reason i wrote and recorded this song 25 years ago in the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City:

And it will completely backfire against us, in more ways than one.

During the Fort Hood shooting, he shouted "Allahu akbar!" and later stated during his court proceedings that he acted out of a desire to defend Muslims in a "war on Islam".

Now, millions of Muslims across the world…..and here at home… will watch him be executed, live.

That video will be used for years, if not generations, to come as a radicalization and recruitment tool.

Long after Trump and Hegseth are gone, we'll be dealing with the fallout.
