I will be peevish and say, "It's about time!", but ... thank you, Cardinal Dolan for coming on strong, and thank you, Christopher Hale, for giving credit where credit is due.

"No ambition tethers him (Dolan) to Washington's favor." Well said, Christopher. Wish it were true of countless others still bending the knee to Trump et al. And not just politicians. If Cardinal Dolan can do a 180 back to Gospel principles . . . surely others can, too. There is hope.

I am not a Catholic. I am not any kind of Christian. Truth to tell, I am probably an atheist at heart. But the argument of the MAGAS—that we are NOT a nation of immigrants — is so idiotic and ignorant that I have just become a paying subscriber to support the Pope and Cardinal Dolan in their fight for truth.

What delightfully surprising news. It does not negate real harm that he has done, but it is a good first step. May all of our hearts be open to conversion.

I will say it, ‘about time ‘Dolan… ! what great damage you have done not only to the cause of immigrants/strangers but to other Catholic social justice principles with your unabashed sidling up to the Trump anti-Catholic regime! Your ancestors were immigrants I assume! What were you thinking till ‘today’? Shane! Talk to your buddy Barron to reign him back to our Catholic teaching!

Agreed, Charlie Kirk was no Saint Paul, he sold racist hate and misogyny, and he was selling white Christian Nationalist politics which apparently Cardinal Dolan and Bishop Barron believed was a genuine search for Christianity. They can’t tell political misuse of religion from genuine faith.

My Irish and German immigrant ancestors would like a word with the fool who says we aren’t a nation of immigrants, and my German ancestors came to Pennsylvania in the 17th century as well. As for “Camp of the Saints,” I read it, and it’s utter racist trash, a French version of the equally worthless

”Turner Diaries.” No wonder fascist pseudo intellectual Steve Bannon recommends the first book. They tell you more about the authors’ disturbed states of mind and prejudices than anything else.

"When even Timothy Dolan has become a target, the administration is running out of Catholics willing to bless its war on the stranger."

Thank you for the newsletter, Chris. We are all immigrants some of us have indigenous ancestors. We are all Gods children. I will pray for Pope Leo and this country through these most difficult times.

Never wrestle with a pig. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it. Nasty statement, but maybe well-deserved. And, we went thru nativism before, like after WWI when ppls from Southern & Eastern Europe were arriving.

Today's natavists are also probably fine w the WWII internment of the Japanese and the turning away of boat loads of European Jews during WWII - both decisions no one s/b OK with.
