But wait, doesn't our "access" to life outside the womb depend on the labor of our mothers? The notion that we can live independently of other humans ignores the dependence of young children on their parents, and sometimes elderly parents on their children. Systems of social solidarity broader than the nuclear family are justified by the reality that the nuclear family isn't always sufficient to provide for the well-being of its members.
